no snap, no crap.
‘no snap, no crap.’ was the summer project I created to enhance my use of camerawork and editing.
The concept of the skit was simple; a man getting frustrated
with a mechanical pencil. Though it seemed whacky, it was something that I felt
could make something effective out of. Building on this idea, I wanted to
create a satire advertisement for BIC that would be funny to watch but without
the use of over-dramatic humour, rather a drier one.
For this I really wanted to push the limits of my camerawork
and use of editing, to really showcase my potential. This involved the use of a
camera slider to gain the smooth movement of each shot, carefully choosing
filming times so that we could really utilise the ‘golden hours’ of sunlight,
and really looking at the details when it came to angles and framing. As well
as this I meticulously edited the film together, with several late nights, and
created several iterations before being satisfied with the final piece.
Every detail was considered, and this really shone through
with the audio, with every single bit of diegetic sound heard in the film
actually being recorded with a professional microphone 4 weeks after the actual
filming. This was carefully edited in and really created another dynamic as the
outcome would’ve been completely different if the raw camera audio was
used.
Overall I was extremely happy with the outcome of this film,
especially with the time restraints and time frames between each production
process and really feel that it came across as a professional production.
